01 What lives on this desk
The news desk carries three streams: transfer-and-squad updates, injury reports, and tournament context. Each stream has its own beat — the transfer-and-squad beat covers every official franchise announcement, injury reports cover only confirmed player unavailability, and tournament context covers the editorial framing around the next 48 hours of fixtures.
When a stream is empty, it stays empty on the page. We do not invent filler news to make the desk look busier than it is.
02 Reading the transfer beat
A transfer beat entry covers one of three event types: a confirmed player release, a confirmed player signing or a retention. Entries are short — three paragraphs at most — and sourced to the franchise’s official communication or to the BCCI / ICC register.
Where a transfer is rumoured but not confirmed, the rumour is moved to the “watch-list” sidebar and labelled as such. The watch-list sidebar exists for the reader who wants to track rumours without the desk pretending they are news.
03 Injury reports
Injury reports are restricted to confirmed player unavailability. A report carries the player, the nature of the injury, the expected return window and the source — typically a franchise media release or a player-quote in a press conference.
Injury status maps directly to the Players index: an index row goes grey for the duration of the report and returns to normal on the day the player is expected back.
04 Tournament context
Tournament context is the editorial framing around the next fixture window: who is in form, who is fatigued, what the venue history says, what the weather looks likely to do. The context paragraph is written by the editor on the desk; it is not generated.
05 How the desk handles rumours
Rumours are tracked on a separate sidebar and are not promoted to news until confirmed. When a rumour is confirmed by a reliable source, the watch-list entry is moved to the top of the relevant news stream and a timestamp is added.
